Meet the Host
Steve Galindo III
As a proud son of Barrio Logan I came to Firme Voices with 20 years of promoting culture through the arts, through my writing, not only as a poet but as a writer in Chicano owned publications such as La Prensa San Diego and at venues such as
the original Voz Alta Project with performances at UCSD, SDSU, San Diego City College, and at the San Diego Foundation for change. I am thrilled to take the reigns at Firme Voices, an arts collective I’ve been passionate about since day one.
Seeing Firme Voices grow into what it has become has filled me with immense pride, and that is thanks to you, our talented poets, and our Firme familia. Since I’ve began to host Firme Voices events in August 2023 I have seen the vision, formation of this beautiful collective grow right before my very eyes and have been inspired, emboldened by stories of immigration, police
brutality, familia, cultura, poems, and stories that frankly you won’t hear anyplace else. I would like to thank the Centro Cultura De La Raza and the Chicano Park Steering Committee, two historical pillars of the Chicano/Mexican community in this city for their continued support and thank all of our new followers that have showed us support as well.
